Greetings,
Even cave men had mirrors, as recent discoveries
have shown! We have cared about the way we look
forever. And Cindy Crawford isn't the only one who has
a "public" face. When I was 28 I had some painting
done in the house. The painter came early one morning
to look around and give an estimate. A week later, he
arrived to do the painting and asked if he could see
Mrs. Dumont. "Yes," I replied, "I am Sandy Dumont." He
explained that he had spoken to another Mrs. Dumont a
week earlier, probably my sister, and he wanted to see
her. Suddenly I realized that he had seen me
without makeup the week before, and now here I was
in full "model's" regalia, headed for a fashion show! The
painter's comment? "Well, you did look sweeter last
week, but you look really dynamite now." I've always
remembered that moment and that valuable
information. Every "look" has its strengths - and its
weaknesses!

Down With The Dreary!

Did
you ever notice as the leaves
slowly die and lose color,
daylight diminishes at about
the same pace? In most places,
it's autumn, and the leaves
are just beginning to turn
from deep green to shades
of orange, rust and yellow.
Haystacks, tan footballs
and chrysanthemums echo
autumn's foliage. Shop windows
do too, and there you will
see garments and accessories
that mimic pumpkins, haystacks,
moss, gourds, nuts, teal
duck feathers and toasty
hotdogs. It's very tempting
to dress to match the season.
If, however, you would like
to dress to look more attractive,
powerful or distinctive,
you may wish to reconsider
this primitive urge to blend
into your surroundings.
Most of us DO dress to blend in with the background,
whether we know it or not. Primitive survival instincts
cause us to leave the house each day dressed so that
the dinosaur won't get us. The most famous
camouflage colors are, of course, army fatigues,
designed to keep enemy fire from getting us. Since few
of us are under enemy fire and there aren't any
dinosaurs around these days, do we really want to
dress to become invisible? In today's competitive world,
isn't it better to stand out in a crowd and look
distinctive?
