Greetings,
Harvard University demonstrated recently that thorough and
long-lasting impressions are made in two seconds. Barbara
Walters was right! The impression that others have of you
affects your success in life. What does your "message without
words" - your image - say about you?

Go For Overall Impression! |

 Image is about overall impression. It is not about how
you look, it is about
how you are perceived.
Because the face is
the focal point, it
is very likely that
if you make your face
look very compelling,
and you have on clothing
that doesn't distract,
no one would notice
that you are perhaps
a size 16 or 18, as
is Shannon in the
photos to the right.
In the right photo, Shannon's floral print top dominates.
It also causes her to look larger, because large prints
suggest "large." In the left photo, Shannon wears an
attractive slimming style, but it does not dominate. Her face
does, because her makeup and hair look very polished and
attractive. The overall effect is "attractive woman" and who
knows what size she is. Mixed Signals
Had Shannon worn the black
outfit with her "before" hair and makeup, the overall
impression would have been different, because black is a
sophisticated "big city" color, and her "before" look was not
sophisticated. This sends mixed signals, requiring the
observer to scrutinize and look more closely. The overall
impression is not clear.
