CHOOSING FROM THE HEART & SOUL
|
| |
Most
people choose clothing from
the "heart and soul" and
it usually has nothing to
do with the results in the
mirror. Human resources
professional, Patty Bonner,
bought her beautiful handcrafted
sweater on a recent trip
to Norway. Though lovely,
the style does not suit
her, since both bulky fabrics
and large patterns make
everyone look larger. The
result? She looks top heavy
and full through the midriff.
Take a look at Patty in the simple black dress. Its
uncluttered lines and dark color make it slimming
and flattering. And Patty has shapely ankles and
legs - perfect for being shown off in a knee-length
skirt! We added bold earrings and dramatic brooch to
keep the black dress from looking somber. Patty also
has an updated hairdo, giving her a more polished and
professional look. She consults for small companies
whose budgets
don't always allow for a full-time H.R. Director, and she
has found that her new look enables her to have doors
opened more easily.

POWER DRESSING & THE IRAQ PRISON SCANDAL
|
| |
And now, the rest of the story from last month's IMAGE
TIPS article about the power of "uniforms" to equate
with authority - and the frightening information it
reveals about the recent Iraq prison scandal.
I am indebted to the research and writings of Robert
Cialdini, Ph.D., whose research revealed our sub-
conscious and deep-seated sense of duty to authority.
Dr. Cialdini recounts a laboratory experiment
involving a
university researcher (the "Authority") and people who
answered an ad to be volunteers in an experiment to
test memory. Volunteers from newspaper ads were told
that the experiment was to study how punishment
affects learning and memory. One volunteer would be
the Learner and the other the Teacher, with the
Researcher in charge. The Teacher was to test the
Learner's memory and to deliver increasingly strong
electric shocks for every mistake the Learner made.
The experiment yielded unexpected and frightening
results.
