Do the task in stages, as the weather gets progressively warmer. Stage One - Late Winter/Early Spring: Remove the "heavy duty" items first. This includes heavy overcoats/winter coats and suits in wool flannel, as well as turtlenecks & bulky sweaters; plus snow boots, ski wear and heavy winter socks. Men, replace the heavy overcoat with a lined raincoat. Women, replace the heavy winter coat with a 3/4-length coat. Stage Two - Early Spring: Women, put aside the wool suits that have collars, but maintain those that are collarless. Retrieve spring suits that have collars and long-sleeves, provided the colors are not too summery looking (turquoise, white, etc.). Men, put aside all but your favorite heavy wool suits that remain, and retrieve light-weight wools in the darkest colors from the spare closet to wear on the warmest days. Retrieve summer ties to wear on the warmest days. Once the weather has leveled off and is warm, retrieve the remainder of your summer suits to enable you to glide into summer.
